Civilisation anglophone (CIVA701_LLCE)
Présentation
Ce cours se compose de deux parties distinctes: l'une portant sur l'Amérique du Nord, et l'autre sur la Grande Bretagne et les anciennes colonies.
Responsables: Noémie Beck et Cléa Fortuné
PART 1: North America. (Cléa Fortuné) Drawing on approaches from Border Studies and Cultural Studies, this course offers an intercultural analysis of cross-border dynamics between Mexico and the United States. It examines the historical construction of the border, the social and cultural relationships that develop on both sides, the experiences and identities of border populations (borderlanders), as well as representations of this space in discourse and cultural productions. Particular attention will be given to migration and to contemporary issues related to border security and enforcement. The course aims to understand the border not only as a geopolitical boundary, but also as a space of contact, exchange, and intercultural negotiation.
PART 2: THE UK AND FORMER COLONIES. (Noémie Beck) Through a historical and intercultural lens, this course examines the dynamics of identity, culture, and religion in the United Kingdom. It traces the construction of British identity (Britishness), the development of multicultural policies since the 1980s, and contemporary debates surrounding social cohesion and integration. The course also adopts a comparative perspective, turning to Australia and New Zealand to analyse the social and linguistic policies enacted towards Indigenous peoples, and the challenges of recognising cultural diversity in these postcolonial societies.
