Présentation

Practice mainly with supra-segmental features of spoken English (pausing, intonation, word & sentence stress, vowel neutralisation, etc.).

Further work with standard symbols for broad transcription of “SSBE” English (Standard Southern British English).

Differences with GAE (General American English) are pointed out as they arise in
context.

Objectifs

Improve production and perception of distintcive features of spoken English, aiming for native-like pronunciation. The target model may be either SSBE or GAE.

Reinforce transcription skills. Students should be able to recognize and write the symbols of SSBE in broad transcription.
